Professional Roof Training Courses

24 August, 2015

Continuing our participation in Skillbuild this year Rooftrain had three specialist roof slating and tiling apprentices competing in the South West Regional Heats held at St Austell College in July.

Congratulations are in order as our apprentice Daniel Prudham of Marnick Roofing, achieved second place.  Simon Dixon, the judge, stated that the standard within the South West, as always, was very high, with Simon giving the highest score ever to the winner, George Simpson also of Marnick Roofing.

Demonstrating their roofing skills within a six hour timespan, as well as being judged with an emphasis on accuracy, neatness and working to a stringent marking plan, competitors were also tested on their ability to follow instructions, understand drawings and work to a strict timescale.

Alan Lander, Rooftrain’s trainer commented;

It was great to see the skills on display and so many talented young roofers.  I wish Daniel, Sam and Jack, who have been a delight to teach, continued success in their future and who, I am sure, will continue to have the support of their respective employers.

It has just been announced that two of our three apprentices have reached the Skillbuild National Final in November as two of the eight highest scorers in the UK. Daniel Prudham of Marnick Roofing along with Jack Newton of Wheeler Roofing will now be competing at the NEC Birmingham.
