Leading to Lead Success
5 July, 2011
It’s not unusual for a Welshman to leave the green green, grass of home to visit Devon, especially when it involves taking part in a well established roof lead welding and bossing training course. This is exactly what Tom Jones did recently when he came to RoofTrain UK’s roof training centre in Exeter during March 2011.
Alan Lander has been teaching the 5-day Lead Sheet Association-approved course for the past 5 years on behalf of the South Wales & South West Roofing Training Group.
Tom and his partner Finn Fraser run their own building firm specialising in the restoration of period and listed properties. They take great satisfaction in using traditional building techniques and materials. Having recently been awarded a contract involving the renovation of a castle roof in Scotland, they felt they would benefit from lead training to prepare them for the project and enhance their existing roofing skills.
Both Tom and Finn stated:
We’re grateful for the many roofing tips and professional advice given by Alan Lander of RoofTrain UK.
Two local lads, Sam White of Western Counties Roofing, and Sim Diffy of Character Builders Southwest Ltd also attended the course. Sim, whose company undertakes heritage restoration work, commented:
I have gained a useful amount of roofing practice and knowledge and shall be able to put my newly found skills to much use.
Course trainer, Alan Lander FIoR of RoofTrain UK, commented:
It is gratifying to be able to impart my roofing expertise and knowledge on to young dynamic lads who will use and pass on these traditional practices and materials to their own businesses so they will continue to be used in the future.
